ABSTRACT
Eggplant (Solanum melongena L.) is a widely consumed vegetable in Indonesia,
either as fresh salad or processed into various dishes. It is rich in nutrients,
particularly Vitamin A and phosphorus, making it a potential contributor to
improving the nutritional diversity of the population. In Riau Province, the average
productivity of eggplant has declined, necessitating improvements in its production
system to meet the increasing demand. This study aims to evaluate the interaction
and individual effects of earthworm and cabbage waste applications, and to
determine the best combination to enhance eggplant yield. The experiment was
arranged in a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) using a factorial method with
two. The first factor, earthworm application (0, 20, and 30 worms per polybag). The
second factor, cabbage waste application (0, 10 t.ha-1 or 420 g per polybag, and 15
t.ha-1 or 630 g per polybag). Parameters observed included number of earthworms,
number of cocoons, soil chemical properties, plant height, days to flowering, days
to first harvest, fruit diameter, fruit weight and fruit length. Data were analyzed
using analysis of variance and followed by Duncan New Multiple Range Test
(DNMRT) at the 5% level using SAS software. The results showed that there was
no significant interaction between the two factors on all observed parameters.
However individually 30 earthworms and 15 t.ha-1 of cabbage waste resulted in the
highest growth and yield indicators. It is recommended to use a combination of 30
earthworms with cabbage waste at either 10 t.ha-1 for optimal growth and yield of
purple eggplant.
