Komposit Low Density Polyethylene Yang Diperkuat Serat Tandan Kosong Kelapa Sawit Sebagai Bahan Alternatif Bumper Mobil
ABSTRACT
Polymer materials commonly used for car bumpers are thermoplastics, because they are lightweight, reduce vehicle weight without sacrificing safety, are able to withstand impacts well, are easy to shape, flexible or not rigid, easy to repair, durable and cheaper. So to get a flexible bumper material, Polyethylene material is used and to increase strength, TKKS fiber is used as a reinforcement, with the hope of meeting the standard bumper strength referring to the research results and SNI 8342 standards which take polypropylene material as the basis for determining the quality of automotive component plastic materials (bumpers). So a study was conducted aimed at obtaining alternative car bumper materials from LDPE composites reinforced with TKKS fibers, with the composite manufacturing process using the hot press method. The variations in weight fractions used were 15%, 25%, 35%. The results of the research on LDPE composites reinforced with TKKS fibers, had an average tensile strength at 15% fiber of 6.71 MPa, at 25% fiber of 7.05 MPa and at 35% fiber of 5.78 MPa. The tensile strength increases from 15% fiber to 25% fiber and decreases at 35% fiber, the decrease at 35% fiber can be caused by the fiber and matrix not being mixed or there is a defect in the composite specimen. The decrease in tensile strength at 35% fiber based on the fracture interface is caused by the fiber and matrix not being perfectly bonded or the matrix not being coated by the matrix and voids are formed with larger sizes and the matrix is stacked. Likewise, the elongation at 15% fiber is lower than 25% fiber, the low elongation at 15% fiber can be caused by the void at 15% fiber being larger than 25% fiber and the possibility that occurs is in the manufacture of composites with 15% and 35% fiber, the pressing process is not perfect, so that voids occur and the fibers are unable to be completely coated by the matrix with a hot pressing process which results in the LDPE composite reinforced with TKKS fiber not being able to approach the tensile strength of propylene which is the standard quality of automotive component plastic materials (bumpers) (SNI 8432).
