Hubungan Karakteristik Pasien Dengan Etiologi Efusi Pleura Di Bagian Paru RSUD Arifin Achmad Provinsi Riau Periode 2011-2015
The adversity in determining the cause of pleural effusion can be seen from unknown etiology, obtained up to 20% of cases in various research reports. Patients with pleural effusion require early and proper treatment, if not, these abnormalities can lead to death. The aim of this research was to determine correlation between characteristics of the patients and pleural effusion etiology in pulmonary department at RSUD Arifin Achmad Riau Province within period of 2011-2015. This research was analytic research using cross sectional retrospective method with medical records as secondary data. There were 166 samples being used in this research. Pleural effusion patients mostly found at age groups 45 – 64 years old (39,2%), gender of the patients was equal between men and women, the most affected side was on the right lung (51,61%), pleural effusion mostly happened unilaterally (91,61%), the color of the pleural fluid mostly found cloudy yellow (48.39%). The most etiology from this study was tuberculosis (34,33%). Type of histopathology in pleural effusion was mostly due to pulmonary malignancy which is adenocarcinoma (42,38%). There was a significant correlation between malignancy and non malignancy as an etiology of pleural effusion with the age and the color of pleural fluid, but there was no significant correlation with gender, the affected side of lung and domination of leukocytes type in the pleural fluid.
