Perbandingan Aktivasi Fisika Pasca Aktivasi Kimia Pada Karbon Aktif Kulit Durian (Durio Zibethinus): Studi Isoterm Adsorpsi Metilen Biru
Abundant durian peel waste can cause problems in the environment. Durian peel contains chemical compounds in the form of cellulose, lignin and starch so that it can be used as raw material in the manufacture of activated carbon. In this study, chemical activation using with KOH was carried out followed by physical activation using a furnace with a comparison between the use of air (atmosphere) and without air (filled with N2 gas) against methylene blue adsorption. The synthesis of activated carbon began with chemical activation using KOH : durian peel powder (BKD) (1:1) g/g (DAK) followed by physical activation using a furnace with a comparison of the use of air (atmosphere) DAKF(Udara) and without air supplied with N2 gas (DAKF(N2)) each at 700oC for 2 hours. Activated carbon characteristics determined include moisture content and ash content. The characterization results showed that the water content decreased after chemical activation, the best water content in DAKF(Udara) was 0.99% while the ash content increased after chemical activation and the lowest ash content in DAK was 3.13%. Adsorption tests on methylene blue with variations in the initial concentration of adsorbate showed that the adsorption ability of DAK, DAKF(Udara) and DAKF(N2) samples decreased as the concentration of methylene blue increased. The highest adsorption capacity and efficiency in the DAKF(Udara) sample were 72.99 mg/g and 97.9286%. It is concluded that chemically activated samples using with KOH followed by physical activation using a furnace with air (atmosphere) DAKF(Udara) is more efficient than chemically activated samples with KOH and chemically activated samples KOH followed by physical activation using furnace without air with N2 gas based on concentration variation. DAKF(Udara) is more effective in adsorbing methylene blue with the Langmuir isotherm model (R2 = 0,9942).
