This research aims to explore the ethnomathematics that exists in the form and motif
of the woven Tandok of the Toba Batak culture. This research is a qualitative
research using ethnographic methods. The research subjects are 13 people. The data
collection techniques observation, interviews, and documentation as well as other
sources. The resultsof this study show that there is an ethnomathematical study on
woven Tandok which includes counting or counting activities, measuring activities,
designing activities and activities of determining direction and location. From these
ethnomathematical activities, there are mathematical concepts in it which include the
concept of numbers, the concept of fractions, the concept of multiplication, the
concept of ratios, the measurement of standard and non-standard units, symmetry,
geometric concepts such as flat figures, the concept of building spaces, lines, and
angles. And there is a history and philosophical meaning in the weaving of the
Tandok both in the shape, motif, color and content. From this study, the researcher
recommends to include ethnomathematics in the woven Tandok as a source of
mathematics learning in elementary schools.
