Dumai city is one of the cities with the second largest administrative area in
Indonesia based on it’s status as a manucipality, after Palangka Raya. The aim of
this study is to analyze the existing conditions of solid and liquid medical waste
management in Dumai City community healt centers, analyze the factors that
influence the management of solid and liquid medical waste. Furthermore,
developing strategies for solid and liquid medical waste management. The method
used in this research is a quantitative method. The population and sample included 5
health centers in Dumai City, with a total of 66 respondents. Factors influencing the
management of solid and liquid medical waste are analyzed based on internal and
external factors.
The research results showed that, Sources of medical waste come from general
polyclinics, dental polyclinics, pharmacies, laboratories, KIA & KB. The types of
solid waste produced include injection needles, gloves, cotton, bandages, alcohol
swabs, ampoules, etc. facilities and infrastructure for solid waste management in the
from of medical and non-medical waste bins, plastic bags, transport container, safety
boxes, temporary storage areas, and freezer box. Management of solid medical
waste in health center throught the stages of sorting, collection, on site
transportation, waste storage, off site transportation. Types of liquid waste include
infution fluids, used water from dental treatment, medical alcohol, and black water.
Facilities and infrastructure for liquid medical waste in the form of wastewater
treatment installations. The technology for processing liquid waste at health centers
consists of a combination of physical, chemical and and biological processing. The
strategy for managing solid and liquid medical waste at the Dumai City Health
Center on the x is 0,80 and y is 1,14. Recommended strategies for solid and liquid
medical waste managemen are increasing effectiveness and compliance in waste
management through consistent implementation SOP, Officer education and
collaboration with third parties, improving the efficiency of medical waste
management through support for facilities and infrastructure, measurement systems
and utilization of funds. Reducing the amount of medical waste from the source
through an educational approach and adjustment to the type of disease case, such as
implementing an internal education program on grouping and reducing medical
waste based on the type of disease.
