The research was conducted in Duri, Mandau District, Bengkalis Regency, Riau Province. This study aims to find out the reasons for Indonesian migrant workers working abroad and the adaptation strategies of Indonesian migrant workers while in Malaysia. In this study Indonesian migrant workers worked abroad to improve their own economic status and their families. The large unemployment rate and lack of jobs in Indonesia encourage people to look for work outside their home areas and many decide to go abroad after hearing of employment from recruitment agencies and social networking with higher salary offers, one of which Malaysia. The research method used is a qualitative research method. The subject determination technique is to use Purposive sampling where this research is used as a particular consideration. The informant's consideration in this study was that informants from BP3TKI and the Disnakertrans were considered to know the best about what the researchers expected in getting information.
The results of the study found that the aim of being PMI is to improve their standard of living in their home regions and Indonesian migrant workers use several strategies to adapt socially and economically while in Malaysia, and also in this study there was an increase in the family social mobility of Indonesian migrant workers
