An Analysis Of Students’ Difficulties In Pronouncing English Vowels
Abstract: This research is a descriptive-quantitative research design
which is aimed at investigating what sounds are difficult to be pronounced by the
second semester students’ English Education Study Program at Teacher Training
and Education Faculty of Universitas Riau in pronouncing English vowels. The
subjects of this study were the second semester students’ English Education Study
Program at Teacher Training and Education Faculty of Universitas Riau. 32
second semester students employed in this study were given the Pronunciation
Test. The findings of this study revealed that the sounds are difficult to be
pronunced are /ɒ/ and /æ/ both of them are from English short vowels. Based on
this research the second semester students of English Education Study Program at
Teacher Training and Education Faculty of Universitas Riau have difficulties in
pronuncing English vowels.
