Komunikasi penyuluhan balai penyuluhan pertanian (bpp) dalam mendorong perubahan perilaku petani untuk Penerapan inovasi pertanian di desa rambah baru, kecamatan rambah samo, kabupaten rokan hulu
Rice farming is a vital sector for food security and a key driver of the economy in Rokan Hulu Regency, Riau Province. However, despite the introduction of various agricultural innovations such as the jajar legowo planting system, the use of superior seeds, and balanced fertilization, many farmers remain reluctant to adopt them due to low trust in new innovations. This study aims to examine how agricultural extension communication conducted by the Agricultural Extension Center (BPP) can encourage behavioral changes among farmers in implementing agricultural innovations in Rambah Baru Village. The study explores the communication channels, the time span of innovation adoption, and the role of social systems in the diffusion process of agricultural innovations.
This research uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive method. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation. Informants were selected using a purposive sampling technique, with a total of 11 informants involved. The data were analyzed using the interactive analysis model of Miles and Huberman. To ensure data validity, source triangulation and technique triangulation were applied.
The research results show that agricultural innovations such as the jajar legowo planting system, the use of superior seeds, and balanced fertilization have begun to be adopted by some farmers in Rambah Baru Village, although this is not yet widespread. This adoption process reflects a shift in behavior toward modern agriculture driven by extension communication through group counseling, field visits, and direct mentoring. Face-to-face communication channels proved most effective because they were able to build trust, provide a space for discussion, and enable direct demonstration of innovations, while digital media only served as a complement due to farmers' limited digital literacy. The innovation adoption process occurred gradually according to Rogers' theory, with variations in speed influenced by internal factors such as age, education, experience, risk perception, and external factors such as social support, the role of group leaders, and proximity to extension workers. Furthermore, the social system of Rambah Baru Village also influenced the diffusion of innovations, as formal messages from extension workers became stronger when reinforced by informal communication between farmers, social solidarity, and support from opinion leaders.
