Pacu Jalur is one of the traditions of the Kuantan Singing Regency community. The
development of information technology has transformed the preservation of Pacu Jalur
in the form of community participation through social media. However, with the
development of the times and the tide of modernisation, cultural traditions such as Pacu
Jalur also face serious challenges. The erosion of traditional values due to globalisation,
changes in lifestyle, particularly among the younger generation, who are increasingly
connected to the global world through social media and the internet. .
This study uses a qualitative method with a descriptive approach. This method was
chosen based on the research objective, which is to gain an in-depth understanding of
how Instagram @kuantanesia is used in efforts to preserve the cultural identity of Pacu
Jalur in Kuantan Singingi Regency on social media.
The results of the study indicate that the @kuantanesia account actively disseminates
Pacu Jalur cultural content through social media and builds interactions with its
followers. This digital strategy significantly contributes to increasing cultural awareness
and preserving local values, particularly among the younger generation and a broader
online audience. This study concludes that social media platforms, when strategically
utilised, can be an effective tool in preserving and revitalising intangible cultural
heritage.
