ABSTRACT
This study aims to: (1) To describe the communication elements of oil palm
farmers in Pelalawan Regency, (2) To describe the communication behavior of oil
palm farmers in Pelalawan Regency, (3) To describe the convergence of capacity
building for oil palm farmers in Pelalawan Regency, (4) To analyze the factors
that influence the communication behavior of oil palm farmers in obtaining
information in Pelalawan District and (5) To analyze the relationship between
communication behavior and convergence of capacity building for oil palm
farmers in Pelalawan District. This research was conducted in Pelelawan Regency
and taken 140 respondents. To answer the first, second and third objectives using
descriptive. Analysis of Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) is used to answer
the fourth and fifth objectives. There are five elements in farmer communication,
namely internal characteristics, external characteristics, information sources,
communication media and program communication, which on average are in the
good enough category. Farmers' communication behavior is in the fairly good
category as seen from their knowledge, attitudes and skills. Communication
behavior is influenced by five factors, each of which has a different effect.
Internal characteristics have a negative influence, external characteristics and
information sources have a positive and significant effect, communication media
and program communications have a positive and significant effect.
communication behavior and capacity building convergence have a very
significant relationship.
