Struktur Komunitas Makrozoobentos Sebagai Indikator Kualitas Perairan Di Zona Intertidal Kota Pariaman Provinsi Sumatera Barat
ABSTRACT
Community structure refers to the arrangement and composition of species
in a natural community, as well as their abundance. It is a concept in ecology that
studies how different species interact and coexist within a given ecosystem.
Ecologists use various indices to assess community structure, including diversity
index, evenness index, and dominance index. One useful indicator for evaluating
water quality is the presence and characteristics of macrozoobenthos, which are
organisms living in the sediment of aquatic environments. A decrease in the
composition, abundance, and diversity of macrozoobenthos can indicate
disturbance or pollution in the ecosystem. In the case of the coastal area of
Pariaman city, the waters have been affected by pollution resulting from various
human activities, particularly tourism. To address this issue, a research study was
conducted in February-March 2023 at Pariaman City Beach, located in the West
Sumatra Province of Indonesia. The research involved the analysis of
macrozoobenthos and sediment samples at the Marine Biology Laboratory and
Marine Chemistry Laboratory of the Department of Marine Science, Faculty of
Fisheries and Marine Sciences, Riau University. The research employed a survey
method, which involved direct observation, measurement, and sampling in the
field. This included the collection of macrozoobenthos samples and measurements
of water quality parameters. The observations of macrozoobenthos during the
study in the coastal waters of Pariaman City revealed the presence of 7 phyla, 8
genera, and 16 species. The abundance of macrozoobenthos ranged from 8.56
Ind/m2-18.44 Ind/m2. The diversity index (H') of the macrozoobenthos community
in the coastal waters of Pariaman City indicated moderate diversity, while the
uniformity index (E) showed a moderate level of evenness, suggesting an uneven
distribution of individuals. The dominance index (C) indicated the absence of any
dominant species. Based on the analysis of the macrozoobenthos community
structure index, it can be concluded that the water quality in the coastal waters of
Pariaman City is classified as good.
