motivasi siswa smk melanjutkan pendidikan ke perguruan tinggi tidak linear jurusan di smkn 1 perhentian raja
This study aims to analyze the motivation of vocational high school students in continuing their education to college by choosing a major that is not linear with the major they took at vocational high school. This study was conducted at SMK Negeri 1 Perhentian Raja, Kampar Regency, focusing on two students who continued their education to a college major that was different from their major of expertise at vocational high school. Through a qualitative approach, this study attempts to understand the factors that influence students' decisions in choosing a college major that is not in accordance with the field of expertise studied at vocational high school. The method used in this study was an in-depth interview with two main informants, namely alumni of SMK Negeri 1 Perhentian Raja, as well as interviews with supporting informants consisting of parents of students and a Guidance and Counseling (BK) teacher at the school. The data obtained were analyzed using qualitative data analysis techniques based on motivational indicators such as interest in the field of study, self-development, satisfaction,
career prospects, environmental influences, social status, and financial survival strategies. The research findings show that internal motivation (especially interest in the field of study and self-development) and external motivation (especially career prospects and the influence of the social environment) play a significant role in students' decisions to choose non-linear majors. Students who choose non-linear majors, although initially considering financial factors and job opportunities, ultimately feel more satisfied with the decision because they feel it is more in line with their interests and aspirations. This study also reveals the important role of the social environment, such as family and school support, in the educational decision-making process. In addition, social status and financial strategy factors are the main considerations in choosing a college major. Therefore, the results of this study are expected to provide deeper insight into the factors that influence vocational high school students' educational decisions, especially in terms of non-linear college major selection, as well as provide recommendations for vocational education and higher education policies.
