This study focuses on looking at the ability to analyze the intrinsic elements of short stories from PGSD class 2017 students of Riau University in this case they are candidates for elementary school teachers later, It is hoped that prospective teachers will understand the elements of short story builders in order to provide understanding and learning of short stories to elementary school students. . In this study, using multiple choice questions that have gone through the validation stage so that the validity of the questions can be proven. Spread questions using the google form application to research subjects. The results of the research on the ability to analyze the intrinsic element of the short stories of PGSD students of class 2017, Riau University, were included in the "Enough" category with an average score of 65.67. This shows that the student's analytical ability in analyzing short stories is still low and there is a weak point of the low achievement of indicators. Prospective teachers should be better able to understand the intrinsic elements of short stories because the material for short stories in elementary schools is still studied in schools, By studying continuously, the ability to analyze the intrinsic elements of short stories is useful to hone analytical thinking skills for a prospective teacher.
