This research is a development research (RnD), with the ADDIE
development procedure, and the purpose of the research is to produce a learning
media, in the form of math comics based on Riau Malay ethnomathematics, that
can increase students' interest in learning mathematics. Students' low interest in
learning mathematics, caused by the rigidity and abstraction of the subject matter
in mathematics and due to the lack of variation in learning by teachers in the
classroom. The selection of ethnomathematical-based mathematical comics as the
object of research is based on the consideration that learning media in the form of
comics can present learning that is more concrete, flexible and can increase
variety in learning. Cultural elements in ethnomathematical comics are
considered to be able to increase the effectiveness of learning using math comics.
Referring to the results of expert validation, it is known that the Riau Malay
ethnomathematics-based mathematical comics are suitable for use in learning
about the nature of commutative counting operations. According to material
experts, the feasibility of comics is categorized as "very good", according to
media design experts, the feasibility of comics is categorized as "good" and
according to learning experts, the feasibility of comics is categorized as "very
good". Meanwhile, referring to the results of the interview, it is known that the
application of mathematical comics based on Malay Malay ethnomathematics can
increase students' interest in learning.
