ABSTRAC
Indonesia still imports from various countries due to domestic supply shortages. The global acetophenone market was valued at US$ 219 million in 2021 and is expected to grow rapidly from 2022 to 2032. This situation presents a significant opportunity to establish a factory to meet domestic demand and compete with international producers from China, India, and Germany. The demand for acetophenone (methyl phenyl ketone) is predicted to increase as it is commonly used as a raw material for various compounds. The need for acetophenone will rise in line with the growing demand for perfumes, soaps, lotions, and other cosmetic products. Acetophenone is produced through the Carbide-Mobil/Badger process, where the Mobil/Badger process aims to produce ethylbenzene through the alkylation of benzene. Ethylbenzene is then converted into acetophenone through an oxidation reaction in the Carbide process. The objective of this pre-design of the factory is to meet domestic acetophenone demand, increase foreign exchange earnings, and create new job opportunities to reduce unemployment. The factory is planned to be built in the Cilegon Industrial Area, Banten, with a production capacity of 15,000 tons per year, using acetophenone distillation column (T-102) as the main equipment. The economic feasibility analysis shows that the establishment of this acetophenone factory is feasible, with a Payback Period (PBP) of 1.16 years, an Internal Rate of Return (IRR) of 43.82%, a Return on Investment (ROI) of 85.94%, and a Break-Even Point (BEP) of 51%.
