Prarancangan Pabrik Metil Klorida Dari Metanol Dan Asam Klorida Proses Hidroklorinasi Metanol Dengan Desain Alat Utama Kolom Distilasi
ABSTRACT
The demand for methyl chloride in Indonesia still relies heavily on imports due to limited domestic production. This study aims to develop a preliminary design of a methyl chloride plant using methanol and hydrochloric acid through a hydrochlorination process, with a distillation column as the main separation equipment. The methodology includes designing the reaction process in a fixed-bed reactor, separation through two-stage distillation, and technical and economic calculations. The design results indicate a production capacity of 100,000 tons/year with a reaction conversion of 95%, located in the Bontang Industrial Area, East Kalimantan. The chosen business entity is a Limited Liability Company (PT) with a line and staff organizational structure. Economic analysis shows that the project is financially feasible, with a high Gross Profit Margin (GPM) and positive feasibility indicators such as IRR and ROI. The Methyl Chloride Plant from Methanol and Hydrochloric Acid is feasible to establish with a Payback Period (PBP) of 4.945 years, an Internal Rate of Return (IRR) of 22.634%, a Return on Investment (ROI) of 20.219%, and a Break-Even Point (BEP) in the fifth year at a production capacity of 51%. The establishment of this plant has the potential to meet national demand, reduce imports, and stimulate the growth of the chemical industry sector.
