This thesis examines the impact of the Z-Mart program, a productive zakat initiative by BAZNAS of Riau Province, on three main aspects: mustahik welfare, business capital growth, and almsgiving behavior. The study is based on the fact that although the Muslim population in Riau reaches 90%, poverty remains a sig- nificant issue, with a poverty rate of 6.36% as of 2024. Zakat is seen not only as a religious obligation but also as a powerful tool for poverty alleviation and eco- nomic development.
The Z-Mart program provides productive zakat in the form of IDR 25 mil- lion in business capital to mustahik to start or expand their small retail (grocery) businesses. This study uses a quantitative approach and applies the Wilcoxon Signed Ranks Test to analyze data from 67 mustahik beneficiaries, comparing their conditions before and after receiving the program.
The results show significant positive differences in all three variables stud- ied. First, mustahik welfare increased, as seen from higher monthly income. Sec- ond, the amount of business capital held by mustahik improved significantly. Third, there was a notable increase in the frequency and amount of almsgiving (sedekah) among mustahik after participating in the program. These findings sup- port the idea that productive zakat, if well-managed, can enhance economic self- sufficiency and foster social responsibility.
In conclusion, the Z-Mart program proves to be an effective model of zakat utilization that not only addresses short-term needs but also contributes to long-term welfare and independence of the poor. The study recommends continu- ous development and support for productive zakat programs accompanied by proper mentoring and monitoring to maximize their impact.
