Perancangan Freeze Vacuum Drying Dengan Menambahkan Thermal Energy Storage Untuk Mengeringkan Tanaman Lidah Buaya
ABSTRACT
Freeze vacuum drying is known as the best drying method in maintaining the nutritional quality and physical appearance of the product. However, this method has the disadvantages of a slow drying rate and high energy consumption. This study aims to improve the efficiency of the drying process by utilizing waste heat from the condenser through a thermal energy storage system based on phase change material (PCM) in the form of paraffin wax. This system is designed to store heat and redistribute it into the drying process to improve overall thermal performance. The design results are the dimensions of the evaporator with a tube length of 23 m, an air flow rate of 2.6042 kg / s, an overall heat transfer coefficient of 6.47 W / m2K. The dimensions of the condenser with a tube length of 15.9 m, an air flow rate of 3.96342 kg / s, an overall heat transfer coefficient of 13.388 W / m2K, a number of fins 88, a fin area of 4.048. The energy consumption obtained by testing 4 kg of aloe vera plant flesh using thermal energy storage is 8.937 kWh. And energy consumption without thermal energy storage is 9,094 kWh. The design coefficient of performance (COP) is 3.8. And for the actual coefficient of performance (COP) with thermal energy storage (TES) is 2.5, while the actual coefficient of performance (COP) without thermal energy storage (TES) is 2.34.
