analisis wacana kritis desain kecurangan pemilu 2024 dalam film dokumenter “dirty vote”
Elections are a crucial element of a democratic system, yet fraud often poses a threat to the legitimacy of the process. The documentary Dirty Vote (2024) exposes various strategies and designs of electoral fraud in the 2024 Indonesian election, highlighting how political actors exploit power and manipulation to influence the election results. This study aims to analyze the construction of electoral fraud discourse in Dirty Vote using Teun A. van Dijk’s Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) approach. Additionally, this research explores the role of the filmmakers' social cognition and the socio-political context that influences both the production and reception of the discourse presented in the film.
The research employs a qualitative approach, utilizing van Dijk’s three-dimensional framework of critical discourse analysis: textual analysis, social cognition, and social context. The textual analysis examines the macrostructure, superstructure, and microstructure of Dirty Vote, focusing on how the theme of electoral fraud is systematically constructed through narrative, language, and visuals. Social cognition explores the ideology and understanding of the filmmakers and interviewees in shaping the discourse, while the social context analysis investigates how Indonesia’s 2024 political situation affects the film’s production and reception. Data were collected through film transcripts, analyses of news articles also official documents related to the election, and interview.
The findings reveal that Dirty Vote constructs the discourse of electoral fraud through a strong evidence-based narrative strategy, incorporating visuals, legal facts, and expert opinions to enhance its credibility. From a textual perspective, the film systematically and persuasively builds the theme of fraud using ideologically charged language and rhetorical techniques such as irony and analogy. The social cognition analysis indicates that the filmmakers aim to raise public awareness of the threats to democracy, while the social context analysis shows that Dirty Vote emerges as a response to a politically tense environment, where independent media and activists play a crucial role in countering disinformation. This study confirms that documentaries can serve as an effective political discourse tool in critiquing undemocratic electoral practices.
