English Preservice Teachers’ Perceptions On The Role Of Microteaching In Teaching Practice Program
Abstract : This study investigated the perceptions of English preservice teachers at Universitas Riau regarding the role of microteaching in their teaching practice program. Microteaching is a key component in teacher education, designed to equip students with essential teaching skills before they begin their real classroom instruction. Utilizing an explanatory sequential mixed-method approach, this study combined quantitative survey data from 64 eighth-semester preservice teachers with qualitative interview insights from six purposively selected participants. The findings indicated that preservice teachers generally perceived microteaching as highly beneficial in four critical domains: planning lesson, lesson preparation, teaching skills, and self-confidence. While the majority of preservice teachers reported positive impacts, several highlighted challenges, such as inadequate supervision and limited real-life classroom simulation. These insights suggested that although microteaching effectively supported preservice teacher development, its impact can be enhanced through improved guidance and feedback mechanisms.
