Karakteristik Arang Aktif Sabut Kelapa Sawit Dengan Aktivator Kimia (H3po4)
ABSTRACT
This study aims to obtain selected characteristics of activated charcoal made from
palm fiber with the help of phosphoric acid as an activator. This study was
conducted using a completely randomized design (CRD) with five treatments and
three replications. The treatments in this study involved the use of phosphoric acid
at concentrations of 10% (KS1), 12.5% (KS2), 15% (KS3), 17.5% (KS4), and 20%
(KS5). Observations were made on the yield, moisture content, ash content, volatile
matter content, pure carbon content and iodine absorption. The data obtained were
analyzed statistically using statistical software IBM SPSS version 23 with an
analysis of variance (ANOVA) test, if Fcount ≥ Ftable then the treatment had a
significant effect, and the analysis will be continued with the further test of
Duncan's multiple range test (DMRT) at level 5%. The results of the study showed
that particle size had a significant effect on the yield, water content, ash, volatile
matter, bound carbon, and iodine absorption of activated charcoal from oil palm
fiber. Activated charcoal with the best treatment was found in the KS5 treatment
(concentration of 20% phosphoric acid) with a yield of 92.91%, moisture content
7.02%, ash content 6.46%, volatile matter content 7.41%, pure carbon content
79.12% and absorption of iodine of 785 mg/g.
