Pengaruh Persentase Larutan Naoh Pada Proses Alkalisasi Terhadap Kekuatan Tarik Serat Tunggal Dan Ketahanan Sobek Kain Serat Daun Nanas
ABSTRACT
The use of natural fibers as an alternative textile material is growing along with the increasing need for environmentally friendly and sustainable materials. One of the potential natural fibers is pineapple leaf fiber (Ananas comosus), which has a fairly high tensile strength. This study aims to examine the effect of variations in alkalization treatment using sodium hydroxide (NaOH) solution on the tensile strength of single pineapple leaf fibers and the tear resistance of woven fabrics from these fibers, with potential applications as alternative materials for making wearpacks. Alkalization treatment was carried out with variations in NaOH concentrations of 2%, 4%, 8% 10%, and without alkalization treatment. Testing included a single fiber tensile test according to the ASTM D2256 standard and a plain woven fabric tear test according to SNI ISO 13937-1:2010. The results showed that 8% alkalization treatment gave the best results with a fiber tensile strength reaching 149.33 N/mm² and a fabric tear resistance of 53,98N. The graph shows that the increase in tensile strength and tear resistance is not linear to the NaOH concentration, so the relationship is non-linear. The cellulose content in the fiber also increases with the increase in NaOH concentration, reaching 87.78% in the 8% treatment. However, the 10% NaOH concentration causes a decrease in mechanical properties due to degradation of the fiber structure. Thus, the alkalization treatment affects the tensile strength of single pineapple leaf fibers and the tear resistance of pineapple leaf fiber fabrics.
