study can contribute to the development of theories in the field of cognitive
semantics, enrich our understanding of how abstract concepts are represented in
the human mind, and contribute new perspectives to broader linguistic and
cognitive studies. This research can be a foundation for further in-depth research
especially in Malay proverbs. The practical benefits of this research are that it can
provide knowledge and understanding to increase insight into the meaning of
expressions in everyday life, and can provide additional reference information
about the meaning of these expressions. The source of data in this study comes
from the Malaysian Malay Language Reference Center and the Big Indonesian
Dictionary. The method used is descriptive qualitative.

based on the image schemes contained in the proverbs of the word mata. There are
six image schemes contained in the proverbs of the eye namely, part-whole image
scheme, linear rule image scheme, connecting image scheme, distance image
scheme, level image scheme, strength image scheme. Of the six image schemes
presented, the most common form of eye proverbs uses linear rule image schemes,
which amount to eight image scheme data.
Based on the results of the research conducted, the researcher recommends
further research. Future researchers are recommended to examine cognitive
ii
semantics in Malay proverbs with certain words other than eye. Future researchers
