Kelimpahan Mikroplastik Pada Sedimen Di Kawasan Pantai Carocok Kabupaten Pesisir Selatan Provinsi Sumatera Barat
ABSTRACT
Plastic material is a type of compound that is difficult to degrade in waters and takes a long time to decompose. In the long term, plastic materials will be degraded in marine waters into small particles called microplastics. Microplastics can accumulate in seawater, sediments and aquatic biota. This research was conducted in September 2021 in the Carocok Beach Tourism Area, Pesisir Selatan Regency, West Sumatra Province. This study aims to determine the abundance of microplastics in sediments in the Carocok Beach tourist area. Determination of the abundance of microplastics in sediment using a microscope with the Sweep Method. There are 3 types of microplastics that have been found in the sediments in the study area, namely fragments (± 70.24 %), fiber (± 16.07%) and films (± 13.69 %). Fragment is the dominant type of microplastic found. The abundance of microplastics in sediments in the Carocok Beach Tourism Area ranged from 70.83-109.17 particles/kg, the highest abundance was found in the Estuary of the Batang River, followed by residential areas (±100.00 particles/kg) and the lowest in tourist areas was 70.83 particles/kg).The abundance of microplastics was more dominant at a depth of 10-20 cm compared to a depth of 0-10 cm. The Carocok Beach tourist area found the lowest abundance of microplastics.
