Aspek Biologi Udang Putih (Penaeus Merguiensis) Di Peraian Kota Dumai
White shrimp (Penaeus merguiensis) inhabits coastal waters around the
Dumai City. A study aims to understand the biological aspect of the shrimp has been
conducted on June to July 2021. There were 4 stations, namely the waters around
the Rampang, Mampu and Payung islands and in the Purnama Coast. The shrimp
was captured using nets, two weekly, 4 times. There were 230 shrimps captured (82
males and 148 females). Results shown that the female shrimp was heavier than the
males of the same size, 4.78-12.32 gr in females and 3.28–8.75 gr in males. The male
and female sex ratio was 1:2. The gonad maturity levels of the shrimp was various,
they were in 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th stages with no shrimp in 5th maturity level. Most of
them was in the 2nd and 3rd levels with few shrimp in 4th level, indicated that the
spawning season may occur soon. During the study time, the shrimp captured was in
various molting stages, they were in the ecdysis stages (soft carapace), an-ecdysis
(hard carapace), pre-ecdysis (prepare to molt) and post-ecdysis (the carapace was in
the process of hardening). The feeding habit of the shrimp shown no feed variation,
as the stomach of all shrimp captured filled with crustacean remains in different level
of digestion process. The biological aspects of the shrimps indicated that they feed,
grow and reproduce properly and it suggested that the environmental condition in the
study site may support the life of P. merguiensis.
