The increasingly rapid development of technology is currently influencing production activities so that they are able to meet the increasing and diverse needs of consumers. On the one hand, increasing the use of more advanced technology can benefit consumers because their needs will be easily met with a variety of choices. On the other hand, increasingly sophisticated technology does not always produce products that comply with safety standards that can be consumed by consumers and often harms consumers. However, in reality, many business actors engaged in buying and selling do not carry out their rights and obligations properly to ensure that consumers are aware of their rights and obligations. weak and disadvantaged position. Like home industry business actors engaged in buying and selling food products. Home industry business actors sell food products that do not include expiration date labels in order to make a profit by not providing clear information to consumers.
This type of research can be classified as empirical legal research or what is usually called sociological research. With the research location being at the Food and Drug Monitoring Center (Loka POM) and Home Industry, Batang Tuaka District, Indragiri Hilir Regency, the population and sample are all parties related to the problem under study. This research uses data sources in the form of primary data and secondary data, and data collection techniques are carried out by interviews.
From the research results it can be concluded that. Firstly, as regulated in Article 19 of the UUPK, home industry business actors are responsible for providing compensation for consumer losses and the activities of Food and Drug Monitoring Workshops (Loka POM) for business actors have not been maximized due to a lack of human resources because there are still business actors who sell food. does not have an expiration date label. Second, there are legal remedies that consumers can take, namely through litigation and non-litigation. The advice from the author is: Firstly, business actors in running their business should show good faith and provide clear information regarding the goods and/or services being distributed and try to pay attention to consumer rights and obligations as business actors and the need for additional human resources as needed to be able to improve performance of the Food and Drug Monitoring Station. Second, consumers should be more careful in purchasing and consuming food products to avoid danger.
