Coral Triangle Iniatiative On Coral Reefs , Fisheries And Food Security (Cti-Cff) Dalam Upaya Perlindungan Terumbu Karang Di Indonesia
ABSTRACT
Indonesia, as the largest archipelagic country in the world, has a vast
maritime area, where it is also located within the Coral Triangle of the world. The
Coral Triangle is one of the locations with the highest levels of coral fish diversity
in the world. The global coral reef ecosystem, especially in Indonesia, is currently
facing a concerning situation where the level of coral reef damage is quite high.
Indonesia has several regulations regarding the protection of coral reefs, but it
does not yet have a legal framework that specifically and concretely regulates the
protection of coral reefs. Coral reefs themselves are a crucial ecosystem for the
sustainability of the larger ecosystem, and their role in maintaining
environmental balance makes them an element that cannot be neglected in terms
of conservation.Based on this, protection efforts for this vast coral reef ecosystem
are deemed necessary. In 2007, Indonesia, through President SBY (Susilo
Bambang Yudhoyono), initiated the formation of an organization that includes six
countries located within the Coral Triangle, which is named the Coral Triangle
Initiative on Coral Reefs, Fisheries, and Food Security (CTI-CFF). The presence
of CTI-CFF is expected to encourage the sustainability of the coral reef ecosystem
in this Coral Triangle region.
The research method used in this study is normative legal research. This
research is a literature study. The focus of this research discussion is on primary,
secondary, and tertiary legal sources. Then, the data that has been collected will
be processed and analyzed using a descriptive method by sorting the data so that
a conclusion can be drawn.
From the research results, there are three main points that can be
concluded. First, the condition of coral reefs in Indonesia is quite varied, where
5.3% of coral reefs are categorized as very good, 27.2% are in good condition,
37.3% are moderate, and 30.5% are categorized as poor. Second, CTI-CFF plays
a significant role in the development of coral reef sustainability since its
establishment in 2009 to the present. Third, Indonesia has dozens of regulations
related to coral reef protection efforts, but among all these regulations, there is
yet to be a rule that specifically governs coral reefs.
