Rancangan Pabrik Ammonia Dari Light Naphtha Proses UHDE Dual Pressure Dengan Desain Alat Utama Reaktor Methanator (R-105)
ABSTRACT
Ammonia is a chemical compound with the molecular formula NH₃, consisting of one nitrogen atom and three hydrogen atoms. It is produced using hydrogen obtained from the cracking of light naphtha and nitrogen gas extracted from the air. With rising global demand, the development of an ammonia plant holds strong potential to create job opportunities and boost the country’s foreign exchange earnings through exports. The plant is planned to be built in Cilacap Regency, Central Java, Indonesia, a location chosen for its strategic access to raw materials and ease of product distribution. Designed with a capacity of 150,000 tons annually, the plant will support various industries. In agriculture, ammonia is a key raw material for fertilizer production, while it is also widely used in the chemical industry, household products, plastic and rubber manufacturing, and metal processing.
Ammonia production is carried out using the dual-pressure UHDE process. In this process, the ammonia synthesis reaction occurs in two main stages within separate reactors, each operating at a different pressure. The first stage is conducted at a lower pressure of approximately 108.5 atm (110 bar), aiming to convert the reactant gases—nitrogen and hydrogen—into ammonia more efficiently. The resulting gas from the first reactor is then directed to the second reactor, which operates at a higher pressure of around 207.2 atm (210 bar). This high pressure increases the reaction rate and optimizes ammonia formation. The resulting ammonia is purified using a flash drum to achieve a product purity of 99.9%. The plant's utility needs are supported by dedicated steam and water supply units. All equipment is equipped with safety systems and process control instruments to ensure continuous and safe operation.
The ammonia plant requires a fixed capital investment of Rp1,181,827,726,036.86, with a working capital investment of Rp294,372,584,686.77 and a total production cost of Rp2,418,270,677,623.76. The products generated are sold with an annual income of Rp2,906,135,244,070.06. Profitability analysis indicates a net present value (NPV) of Rp2,485,147,096,914.44, an internal rate of return (IRR) of 26.401%, a break-even point (BEP) at a production capacity of 41.34%, and a payback period (PBP) of 3.27 years. Based on these results, the design of the ammonia plant utilizing the Light Naphtha UHDE Dual Pressure Process is deemed feasible for establishment.
