Rancangan Pabrik Cumene Proses Polimeri/Lummus Dengan Desain Alat Utama Reaktor Alkilasi Benzena (R-101)
ABSTRACT
The chemical industry in Indonesia is experiencing rapid growth, increasing the need for
supporting materials such as cumene, which is currently still imported from other countries.
Cumene (C9H12) is an aromatic compound resulting from the reaction of propylene and benzene,
has a colorless liquid form and is an important material in the petrochemical industry. By using
the PBE-1 zeolite catalyst, cumene can be produced with high purity. The establishment of a
cumene factory is planned in Cilacap, Central Java with a capacity of 67,000 tons per year.
Indonesia is expected to reduce dependence on imports, open up employment opportunities, and
make a positive contribution to the country's foreign exchange.
Cumene production is carried out by the polymeri/lummus process through three main
stages: raw material preparation, reaction, and product purification. Raw materials in the form
of propylene and benzene are mixed in a mixer and flowed to the alkylation reactor, the alkylation
and transalkylation reactions occur in the liquid phase using the PBE-1 zeolite catalyst. After the
reaction. The product is flowed through a distillation unit to separate cumene, benzene, and
DIPB, with certain components recycled into the process. The product purification stage is carried
out in the cumene distillation column, while DIPB is recycled to the transalkylation reactor. The
plant's utility system includes electricity supply, air process, air conditioning, and waste treatment
in accordance with regulations. Electricity needs are met by PLN and generators, while water is
obtained from treated rivers. Liquid waste is managed through sedimentation, neutralization,
and aeration processes before being discharged into the environment.
The results of the economic analysis with a total capital investment (TCI) of Rp
1,546,220,459,503, total production cost (TPC) of Rp 1,737,249,893,739 and working capital
investment (WCI) of Rp 231,933,068,925. Revenue from cumene product sales is Rp
3,075,457,835,574 per year. From the profitability analysis, the net present value (NPV) value
is Rp 197,123,184,179, the internal rate of return (IRR) is 19.9%, the breakeven point (BEP)
occurs at a production capacity of 39.58%, the payout time (POT) is 3.77 years, and the return
on investment (ROI) is 18.32%. The results of the profitability analysis indicate that the cumene
plant is feasible to be established and is a profitable investment.
