Executive Summary Rancangan Pabrik Polivinil Asetat Dari Asam Asetat Dengan Desain Alat Utama Reaktor Asetoksilasi Etilen (R-101)
ABSTRCT
Polyvinyl acetate (PVAc) is a thermoplastic polymer used as a raw material in the adhesive industry. PVAc whether modified or not, in solution or emulsion form, as a homopolymer or copolymer, shows a diversity that makes this adhesive suitable as a binder for various materials, especially wood products and their derivatives. PVAc is obtained from the polymerization of vinyl acetate monomer, while vinyl acetate can be produced from acetic acid. It is reported that in 1977 two million tons of PVAc were produced worldwide. In 2012, the demand for adhesives increased by 15% annually in Indonesia. This shows that the great need of Indonesian people for PVAc so that the construction of this plant is designed with a production capacity of 10,000 tons per year. The plant is planned to be located in the Cilegon industrial area, Ciwandan District, Cilegon City, Banten Province.
The PVAc produced requires raw materials in the form of vinyl acetate monomer (VAM). VAM is produced by ethylene acetoxylation. Ethylene acetoxylation requires raw materials such as acetic acid, ethylene, and oxygen to produce vinyl acetate and by-products such as water and carbon dioxide. Vinyl acetate will be polymerized with the help of azobisisobutyronitrile initiator and methanol solvent in a continuous stirred tank reactor at 65℃ and 1 atm pressure with a reaction conversion of 80%. The plant's utility facilities cover a wide range of essential needs which include electricity supply unit, steam supply unit and water supply unit. Waste generated from production will be treated at the waste treatment unit. The production process in this plant will be controlled using process control instruments and safety instruments to ensure the production process runs well.
The results of the economic analysis for total capital investment (TCI) amounted to Rp1.424.069.712.163, working capital investment (WCI) amounted to Rp213.610.456.825 and total production cost (TPC) amounted to Rp511.680.451.103,65. Revenue from sales of polyvinyl acetate products amounted to Rp1.066.232.037.812/year. The profitability analysis of the polyvinyl acetate plant is determined based on the return on investment (ROI), payback period (PBP), internal rate of return (IRR), break even point (BEP), and net present value (NPV). The calculation of return on investment (ROI) for the polyvinyl acetate plant is 19,51%%. Calculation of payback period (PBP) of polyvinyl acetate plant for 3,38 years. The calculation of the internal rate of return (IRR) of the polyvinyl acetate plant is 20%. Calculation of breakeven point (BEP) of polyvinyl acetate plant at 25,16% production capacity. The net present value (NPV) calculation of the polyvinyl acetate plant amounted to Rp997.251.440.997,55 with a discount rate of 10%. Profitability analysis shows that the polyvinyl acetate plant is feasible to establish and can be a good investment.
