Executive Summary Rancangan Pabrik Benzoic Acid Proses Fotoklorinasi Toluene Desain Alat Utama Bubble Column Reactor (R-101)
ABSTRACT
Benzoic acid, also known as benzenecarboxylic acid with the molecular formula C6H5COOH, is a chemical compound commonly used as a preservative in food, pharmaceuticals, and cosmetic products. The uses of benzoic acid are not only limited to preservatives but also include being a raw material in the production of alkyd resins, plastic materials, and various other organic compounds. Global demand for benzoic acid continues to increase, reaching 8.3 thousand tons in 2022, with projected growth in the following years. Currently, Indonesia does not yet have its own benzoic acid factory, making the establishment of a domestic plant necessary to meet local market demands and reduce import dependency.
This benzoic acid plant is planned to be established in Dumai City with a production capacity of 15,000 tons per year. The plant will require water utilities amounting to 21,743.326 kg/hour and electricity demand of 357.513 kW. Additionally, the plant will use 11,874.005 kg/hour of steam for the production process. Waste generated from the benzoic acid production process is estimated to be 605.199 kg/hour and will be processed in a waste treatment unit to ensure that the plant operates in compliance with environmental standards.
The results of the economic analysis with total capital investment (TCI) of Rp2.271.643.375.326, total production cost (TPC) of Rp1.623.266.070.904, and working capital investment (WCI) of Rp344.099.696.761. Revenue from the sale of benzoic acid products amounted to Rp1.626.266.070.904/year. From the profitability analysis, a net present value (NPV) with a 6,25% discount rate of Rp3.568.255.600.615,42 was obtained, an internal rate of return (IRR) of 19,73%, a breakeven point (BEP) occurred at a production capacity of 62%, and a payback period (PBP) of 6.01 years. The profitability analysis results show that the acrolein plant is feasible to establish and is a profitable investment.
