Executive Summary Rancangan Pabrik Fatty Alcohol Dari Pko Teknologi Distilasi Reaktif Dengan Desain Alat Utama Kolom Distilasi Reaktif Metil Ester (T-101)
ABSTRACT
Fatty alcohol is a high alcohol compound (aliphatic class) that has a chain length between C8 and C32 that can be produced from animal fat or vegetable oil. Fatty alcohol is generally used in emulsion and micro-emulsion products, for example in cosmetic products, detergents, and personal care products. Indonesia has continued to import fatty alcohol for the past five years with an average annual import of 29,126,855.6 kg/year or 29,126.86 tons/year. Therefore, the establishment of a fatty alcohol factory will provide profitable results. The fatty alcohol factory will be built in Dumai City, Riau Province. The location of the factory was chosen because it is close to the source of raw materials, namely palm kernel oil (PKO) obtained from PT. Ivo Mas Tunggal, which is also located in Dumai.
The process technology used to produce fatty alcohol is reactive distillation technology. The manufacture of fatty alcohol involves two stages of reaction, namely the transesterification reaction and the hydrogenation reaction. In the transesterification process, products are produced in the form of methyl esters and glycerol as by-products. Then the hydrogenation process is continued to obtain fatty alcohol with a by-product in the form of methanol. The transesterification reaction occurs in the reactive distillation column while the hydrogenation reaction occurs in the bubble column reactor. The fatty alcohol factory requires utilities in the form of electricity of 820.5120 kW/hour, steam of 933.768 kg/hour, cooling water of 1,120,693.449 Kg/hour, and the total water requirement of the fatty alcohol factory is 1.338.213,23 Kg/hour. The fatty alcohol factory produces liquid waste from domestic activities, which is processed using the activated sludge process.
The fatty alcohol plant has a fixed capital investment of IDR 1.186.646.764.520, a working capital investment of IDR 177.977.014.678,03, and a total production cost of IDR 1.199.502.973.469,24. The products produced are sold with a revenue of IDR 1.877.853.343.094,23 per year. From the profitability analysis, a net present value (NPV) of IDR 3.670.462.661.455,06, a return on invement (ROI) of 27.59%, an internal rate of return (IRR) of 33,93%, a break-even point (BEP) at 36% production capacity, and a payback period (PBP) of 2,56 years (2 years and 6 months). Based on these results, the design of fatty alcohol plant from palm kernel oil (PKO) of reactive distillation technology is considered feasible and a profitable investment.
