hubungan ekspresi e-cadherin dengan metastasis kanker paru di rsud arifin achmad provinsi riau
Background:
Lung cancer is a leading cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide. According to GLOBOCAN 2022, there were 2.4 million cases with 1.8 million deaths. In Indonesia, cases increased from 30,843 in 2020 to 34,783 in 2023. Metastasis is the primary cause of mortality and is associated with E-Cadherin expression, a key epithelial adhesion protein.
Methods:
This cross-sectional study aimed to analyze the relationship between E-Cadherin expression and metastasis in lung cancer patients at RSUD Arifin Achmad, Riau Province. A total of 60 patients were diagnosed via thoracic CT scan and bronchoscopy, followed by immunohistochemical E-Cadherin examination.
Results:
Results showed that 48 patients (80%) had metastasis, mostly in the pleura (65%). A total of 40 patients (67%) exhibited negative E-Cadherin expression. Statistical analysis revealed a significant association between negative E-Cadherin expression and metastasis (OR = 47.677; 95% CI: 5.434–418.162; P = 0.000). Age, gender, smoking status, and performance status were not significantly related to metastasis or E-Cadherin expression (P > 0.05).
Conclusion:
These findings highlight the crucial role of negative E-Cadherin expression in lung cancer metastasis and its potential as a biomarker for prognosis assessment.
