Potensi Dan Tantangan Penyuluh Pertanian Dalam Meningkatkan Ketahanan Pangan Di Kabupaten Kuantan Singingi Provinsi Riau

ABSTRACT
Food security is closely related to meeting the food needs of each
individual in the household. Rice (Oryza sativa) is a type of food plant consumed
by almost half of the world's population. The amount of rice production in
Kuantan Singingi Regency has fluctuated. Kuantan Singingi Regency in 2021 will
be ranked the 4th largest rice producing region in Riau Province. The large or low
rice production is indirectly influenced by the role of extension workers in
motivating farmers to increase farming. This study aims to: identify the potentials
and challenges faced by agricultural extension workers and rice farmers in
increasing food security and analyzing the level of food security of rice farmers in
Kuantan Singingi Regency, Riau Province. The research was conducted in 5 of
the 15 sub-districts in Kuantan Singingi Regency starting from June-December
2022. The research used a survey method with extension samples taken by census
and farmers purposively. The data analysis used is descriptive qualitative and
quantitative analysis. The potential possessed by agricultural extension officers
seen from the characteristics possessed there are 14 components, while the other 3
components are a challenge, from the competence possessed by the agricultural
extension agent is the greatest potential, while the skills of the extension worker
are the biggest challenge that must be faced. The food security of rice farmers is
said to be food secure in terms of the aspects of food availability (TSP), food
access (DBPP), quality of food security (PPP).
