Analisis Indeks Kekeringan Meteorologis Lahan Gambut Di Kabupaten Bengkalis Menggunakan Google Earth Engine (Gee)
ABSTRACT
This study aims to evaluate the reliability of the SPI-3 (Standardized Precipitation
Index) generated by Google Earth Engine (GEE) by comparing it with manual
calculations using Microsoft Excel, as well as to analyze the correlation between
SPI-3 and hotspot occurrences. SPI-3 monitoring is conducted due to the high fire
susceptibility of peatlands during drought conditions, highlighting the need for a
reliable and efficient monitoring system. The study was conducted in Bengkalis
Regency, located on Sumatra Island, which was divided into six analysis grids.
Rainfall data were obtained from the TRMM satellite (2009–2019) and GPM
satellite (2020–2024). The results show that SPI-3 data from GEE have high
accuracy, with a minimum agreement of 90% compared to manual calculations.
Correlation analysis revealed a negative relationship between SPI-3 and hotspot
occurrences, with weak to moderate correlation levels. This indicates that human
activities also contribute to the emergence of hotspots. GEE is considered effective
for rapid and efficient drought monitoring.
