Motivasi Remaja Perempuan Mengikuti Beladiri Taekwondo Di Dojang King Dragon Club Kota Duri
Taekwondo martial arts is a hard sport that requires a strong physique and the ability to think and move quickly. Men are often considered more suitable because they are stronger, rational, and mighty, while women are considered gentle, feminine, and emotional, so they are seen as less capable in martial arts. This view reflects the stereotype that women are weak and less skilled than men. This study aims to identify the motivations and challenges of adolescent girls participating in taekwondo martial arts at Dojang King Dragon Kota Duri using the perspective of rational choice theory by James S. Coleman. The research method used is a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection techniques in the form of observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. The research subjects were six informants consisting of three female adolescents and three parents as supporting informants. The results of the study show that the motivation of adolescent girls to participate in taekwondo martial arts is to follow in the footsteps of their brothers, to take care of themselves, increase their daily activities and get achievements in non-academic fields. The challenges of adolescent girls in participating in taekwondo are the fear of injury, the less effective division of time between training and rest, and the fear before competition.
