This research was motivated by inter-ethnic marriages that occurred in several tribes in Kenagarian Jake, Central Kuantan District, Kuantan Singingi Regency. The formulation of the problem in this research is what are the reasons for interethnic marriages in Kenagarian Jake, Kuantan Tengah District, Kuantan Singingi Regency and also the sanctions imposed by the community who carry out these marriages. This research aims to find out how inter-ethnic marriages occur in several tribes in Kenagarian Jake, Central Kuantan District, Kuantan Singingi Regency. Data collection techniques in this research are observation, interviews and documentation. The informants in this research were the Penghulu of the Piliang, Melayu, Pitopang tribes and communities who carry out marriages of the same tribe. The data analysis technique in this research uses qualitative methods. The findings in this research explain that marriage between ethnic groups is strictly prohibited. However, as time went by, there was so much tolerance that the only sanctions given were slaughtering livestock such as ordinary cows and goats. All witnesses were carried out in accordance with customary law. Violators of customs who have not been able to repay or pay the fine are not allowed to carry out customary activities such as bathing children, praying for customs, circumcision, marrying other relatives and other activities that involve the customs of their family, relatives and even their descendants. However, so far Kenagarian Jake has carried out the customary process and implemented existing sanctions.
