This research is motivated by the development of information and
communication technology in today's world. Social media is a means that allows its
users to interact virtually through an internet connection. Nowadays, social media
tends to be used to excessively display one's existence, which can ultimately
influence thought patterns, lifestyles, and even the culture of a nation. For students
of the PPKn study program at Riau University, social media not only functions as
an interesting source of information but has also become a part of their daily
lifestyle.
This research aims to determine whether there is an influence of Instagram
social media usage on the lifestyle of students in the PPKn study program at Riau
University. The benefit of this research is expected to provide and expand
knowledge about the influence of Instagram social media usage on the lifestyle of
students in the PPKn study program at Riau University. Furthermore, the researcher
hopes that the results of this study can serve as reference material for future
research.
This research uses a quantitative method with a descriptive approach. The
research location is at the Study Program of Pancasila Education and Citizenship,
Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Riau University, located at Bina Widya
Campus KM 12.5 Simpang Baru, Pekanbaru. The instrument used in this study is a

questionnaire consisting of 29 statement items. The population in this study
includes all active students from the 2021, 2022, and 2023 batches of the Study
Program of Pancasila Education and Citizenship, Faculty of Teacher Training and
Education, Riau University. The determination of the sample size uses a
significance level of 10% from the entire population using the Slovin formula,
resulting in a sample of 70 students from the 2021, 2022, and 2023 batches of the
Study Program of Pancasila Education and Citizenship, Faculty of Teacher Training
and Education, Riau University.
From the results of the data analysis in this study, it was found that: there is a
positive and significant influence between the use of Instagram social media and
the lifestyle of students in the Pancasila Education and Citizenship Studies program
at the University of Riau. This indicates that F count 64.546 ≥ F table 3.982. Thus,
it can be concluded that Ha is accepted and Ho is rejected, so partially the use of
Instagram social media (X) on student lifestyle (Y) is 48.7% and the remaining
51.1% is caused by the influence of other variables not studied in this research.
