Efek Pemberian Asam Alfa Lipoat Terhadap Histopatologi Arteri Koronaria Tikus Yang Diinduksi Diabetes Melitus Tipe 2
Oxidative stress increase in type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM). This might cause complications, one of them is atherosclerosis. Alpha lipoic acid (ALA) is antioxidant which could have potential preventing atherosclerosis. This research investigated effects of ALA on atherosclerosis lesion score in rats-induced type 2 DM. Fifteen male Wistar rats (± 2 - 3 months old, 200-250 gBW) were devided into three groups; control, type 2 DM, and type 2 DM + ALA. Type 2 DM induced by giving streptozotocin (50 mg/kgBW) and nicotinamide (110 mg/kgBW) intraperitonially. Type 2 DM were diagnosed if perifer blood glucose level more than 250 mg/dL. ALA (60 mg/kgBW/day) were given by sondage. The result showed that mean of atherosclerosis lesion score group of type 2 DM + ALA was lower than type 2 DM (0,264 ± 0,361 vs 0,442 ± 0,519, p = 0,199). Althought in statistic it was not significantly different, there were proof that ALA might decrease atherosclerosis lesion score in rats-induced type 2 DM.
