Pengaruh Suhu Karbonisasi Terhadap Karakteristik Adsorben Karbon Aktif Berbahan Tandan Kosong Sawit
Palm Empty Bunches (EFB) is a biomass that is rich in carbon elements, making EFB has the potential as activated carbon. Activated carbon has many uses as an adsorbent because it has high absorption power due to the pores in the activated carbon material. The process of making activated carbon consists of three stages, the dehydration stage, carbonization, and activation process. This research aims to analyze the best carbonization temperature on the quality of activated carbon and the adsorption capacity of TKS activated carbon, and analyze the characteristics of EPB adsorbent using Lignocellulose test, Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), Brunauer Emmett Teller (BET), Fourier Transform Infra Red (FTIR), X-Ray Diffraction (XRD). The research method was carried out by varying the carbonization temperature of 4000C, 5000C, and 6000C after which the EPB activated carbon was soaked in 0.5 M HCl solution. After that, the results of EPB activated carbon were analyzed proximate to find the best variation and then carried out the adsorption process on artificial Cu metal waste. Based on the results of the lignocellulose test, the results obtained were 10.74% lignin, 16.34% cellulose, 11.77% hemicellulose. SEM test results show that EPB activated carbon after activation has large pores and closed again after the Cu metal adsorption process which indicates the absorption of Cu metal. The BET test results obtained a surface area of 113.51 m2/g, a pore size of 3.16 nm and classified as mesoporous type. FTIR characteristic analysis obtained -OH, C=C, C-O, C≡C groups on EPB activated carbon after activation and a shift in wave numbers after the adsorption process. The results of XRD testing, the degree of crystallinity of TKS activated carbon before activation, after activation and after adsorption obtained results of 30.87%, 49.22%, 38.68%. The adsorption process of Cu metal with EPB activated carbon resulted in an adsorption capacity of 9.94 mg/g and an adsorption efficiency of 99.49%.
