Prarancangan Pabrik Butanediol Proses Davy Dengan Desain Alat Utama Reaktor Hidrogenasi Dimetil Maleat (R-102)
ABSTRACK
1,4-Butanediol is a compound with numerous industrial and medical applications. It is used as an organic solvent and an intermediate in the manufacture of various types of plastics and synthetic fibers. Additionally, 1,4-butanediol is widely used as an additive in the textile industry. The 1,4-butanediol plant, with a capacity of 30,000 tons per year, is planned to be operational by 2028 and will be located in the Industrial Area of Bontang City, East Kalimantan. The planned company structure is a Limited Liability Company (PT) with a line and staff organization system, operating 330 days per year and 24 hours per day. The company will require a workforce of 240 employees, consisting of 169 shift workers and 71 non-shift workers. 1,4-Butanediol is produced from maleic anhydride, methanol, and hydrogen through the Davy process, where maleic anhydride reacts with methanol to produce dimethyl maleate, which is then reacted with hydrogen to produce 1,4-butanediol. The selected main equipment design is dimethyl maleate hydrogenation reactor (R-102). Reactor R-102 functions is to react dimethyl maleate and hydrogen with a Cu/ZnO catalyst. The reactor operates at a pressure of 5 atm and a temperature of 220 °C. The economic analysis of the preliminary design of the 1,4-butanediol plant indicates that this plant is feasible to establish, with a Net Present Value (NPV) of Rp. 690,592,637,824, which is greater than the Total Capital Investment (TCI) of Rp. 496,643,162,204. The Break-Even Point (BEP) is 45.03%, the Rate of Investment (ROI) is 25.52%, and the Interest Rate of Return (IRR) is 25.51%.
