ABSTRACT


Dimethyl terephthalate is a chemical compound with the formula C10H10O4. This compound is a diester obtained from the esterification reaction between terephthalic acid and methanol. This compound is a white solid that melts to produce a colorless liquid that can be distilled. This factory is planned to operate for 330 days per year and work continuously 24 hours/day with a capacity of 200,000 tons/year which will be established in the Cilegon Industrial Estate Area (KIEC) Cilegon City, Banten Province, Indonesia. The company form chosen is a Limited Liability Company (PT) with a line and staff organizational system. The employee work system is based on the division of working hours consisting of shift and non-shift employees. The main tool design in this factory is a Crystallizer (CR-101) which functions to crystallize Dimethyl Terephthalate products. Economic analysis in the design of this factory shows that this factory is feasible to build. With a Break Event Point (BEP) value of 46%, Pay Out Period (POP) of 2.092 years, Rate of Investment (ROI) of 43.889%, and Interest Rate of Return (IRR) of 22.745%.
