ABSTRACT
Indonesia is a country located on the equator that has a variety of alternative
energy sources, one of which is water that can be used for energy needs in
industry, transportation, commercial, and households. Riau is one of the
provinces where the streams and waterfalls are still not fully utilized by the
community. Micro-hydro power plants (MHPs) are one of the renewable energy
solutions that are increasingly popular, especially in remote areas that have not
been reached by the national electricity grid. One of the main components in the
MHP is a turbine, which functions to convert kinetic energy from water flow into
mechanical energy which is then converted into electrical energy by a generator.
This final project aims to build and test a micro hydro power plant using a pelton
turbine that has a head of 18.34 meters with a discharge of 0.001 m3 / second and
a flow rate of 8.85 m / second. The nozzle as a water transmitter that will fall into
the turbine wheel has a diameter of 12 mm, the number of turbine blades is 18
pieces, the runner diameter is 250 mm. The performance of the micro hydro
power plant was tested with a load variation of 0-30 watts. The test results of the
micro hydro power plant have a maximum rotation of 732 rpm without a lamp
load and 546 rpm with a 30 Watt lamp charged.
