ABSTRACT
Soil biodiversity takes an important role part in maintaining the soil
quality. However, the diversity of soil mesofauna on peatlands overgrown of
Mucuna bracteata under the stand of oil palm plantation are likely rare to review.
therefore, this study aims to see the diversity of meso fauna on peatlands that
covered by the different age of Mucuna bracteata. This research was conducted in
the peatlands that covered by the different age of Mucuna bracteata in PT.
Jatimjaya Perkasa oil palm plantations Rokan Hilir Riau. This research has been
conducted since September until November 2018. This research have been done
using survey method, the location determined using purposive sampling and the
sampling point determined with stratified random sampling. The stratum location
is determined by the age group of Mucuna bracteata which is age one year, two
years, and three years. Soil sampling was conducted with three replicates on
peatlands that covered by the different age of Mucuna bracteata with total sample
of 18 samples. The parameters that observed in this study were population size,
population density, diversity of soil mesofauna and index of dominance. The
results showed that the more increasing age of Mucuna bracteata the more
increase the total population, population density and diversity of mesofauna of
soil.
