Pendugaan Parameter Genetik Dan Variabilitas Karakter Morfologi Berdasarkan Half-Sib Family Pada Tanaman Jagung (Zea Mays L.)
ABSTRACT
The assembly of maize (Zea mays L.) varieties for small-scale farmers is very
necessary, one of the promising varieties to be developed is open polinated (OP)
whose seed production is simpler and technological inputs are relatively low. The
development of OP requires information on several inheritance parameters of
characters that support the productivity of corn plants. The parameters needed
include additive genetic diversity components, dominance, heritability and
correlation between characters. The purpose of this study was to determine the
magnitude of the genetic diversity component, heritability, and the relationship
between morphological characters and yield of corn plants in the half-sib family
population. This research was conducted in the experimental garden of the Faculty
of Agriculture, Riau University, from May to September 2024, using a randomized
group design in the field. The treatment consisted of four F1 half-sib families with
each planted in four replicates, so there were 16 experimental units. The result
showed that almost all characters had significant among and within half-sib
diversity components, except for a few characters such as flag leaf width, days to
silking and tasseling. Additive and dominant genetic diversity was relatively wide
in a number of important characters, such as plant height, ear height, and grain yield
per plant. Heritability broad sense of the characters plant height, ear height, stem
base diameter, average internode length, flag leaf length, days to maturity and grain
yield per plant were expressed as high. Heritability narrow sense is high only in the
characters of stem base diameter, flag leaf length and days to maturity. Significant
correlation of flag leaf length, average internode length, plant height, ear height,
days to silking and days to maturity had a close relationship with grain yield per
plant. Phenotypic variability was relatively narrow with low to medium coefficients
of variation, except for plant height, ear height and grain yield per plant.
