Karakterisasi Dan Efisiensi Adsorpsi Serbuk Buah Jabon Putih (Anthocephalus Cadamba Miq.) Dikombinasikan Dengan Asam Humat Pada Penjerapan Methyl Orange

Riri Ulfa Hariyani / 2103113971 - Nama Persendirian;

The white jabon fruit (Anthocephalus cadamba Miq.) is expected to have potential as a biosorbent due to its relatively high cellulose content. The powder of white jabon fruit activated with NaOH and combined with peat water has been studied for its capability as a biosorbent because it possesses a high surface area and contains many active functional groups in humic acid, with the jabon fruit serving as a solid support material for the humic acid. This study aims to determine the optimal biosorbent dosage, pH, pHpzc and contact time of white jabon fruit powder in adsorbing Methyl Orange. The method used in this research is a batch adsorption method for Methyl Orange with variations in biosorbent dosage (0.1, 0.3, 0.5, 0.7
and 1.0 g), solution pH (2, 4, 6, 8 and 10), pHpzc (2, 4, 6, 8, 10 and 12) and contact
time (40, 60, 80 and 100 minutes). The biosorbent characterization tests refer to SNI No. 06-3730-1995 to determine the adsorption capacity for methylene blue. The morphology and elements contained in the biosorbent powder of jabon fruit before activation and after the combination with peat water were analyzed using SEM-EDS, while the pore size of the biosorbent was determined using ImageJ software. The identification of functional groups in the biosorbent before activation, after the combination with peat water and after the adsorption process was conducted using FTIR. The surface area was analyzed through BET resulting in a surface area of 1.115 m²/g after activation. The adsorption results were obtained at the optimal biosorbent dosage of 0.7 g, optimal solution pH of 2, pHpzc of 7.3 and optimal contact time of 60 minutes with an adsorption efficiency of 79.89% and an adsorption capacity of 2.8450 mg/g. The most suitable kinetic model is the pseudo- second-order model with an R² value of 0.9893 and a reaction rate constant of 0.1191 g/mg minute. Based on the results of this study, it can be concluded that white jabon fruit powder is an effective biosorbent for adsorbing Methyl Orange and parameters such as dosage, pH, pHpzc and contact time play a significant role in the efficiency and capacity of adsorption.
