Pengembangan Media Pembelajaran Berbasis Komik Pada Materi Menulis Karya Fiksi Untuk Sekolah Menengah Pertama
              SUMMARY
Zulpikal. NIM 2310246836. Development of Comic-Based Learning Media on Fiction Writing Material for Junior High School Students, supervised by Mangatur Sinaga and Charlina
This research is motivated by the low interest and ability of students in writing fiction, which is attributed to the use of conventional and less engaging learning media. The aim of this study is to develop comic-based learning media suitable for junior high school students in learning fiction writing. This medium is expected to enhance students' engagement, comprehension, and skills through a fun and contextual visual approach.
This is a research and development (R&D) study employing the Borg and Gall model, which consists of nine stages, starting from needs analysis to large-scale field testing. The research subjects were eighth-grade students and Indonesian language teachers from SMP Negeri 1 and SMP Negeri 2 Tebing Tinggi.
The research questions include: (1) How is the process of developing comic-based learning media carried out? (2) What is the quality of the learning media prototype based on expert validation and testing results, and how do teachers and students respond to its use? Data collection techniques included questionnaires, interviews, observations, and documentation. The data were analyzed quantitatively using Aiken’s V, N-Gain test, and retention test, as well as qualitatively through content and descriptive analysis.
The results show that the developed comic media is highly feasible for use in teaching fiction writing. Validations by experts in content, media, language, and culture yielded high Aiken’s V scores (0.87–0.91). The N-Gain test indicated an improvement in student learning outcomes with an average score of 0.71 (categorized as effective), while the retention test showed an average score of 81.25 (very good category). The responses from teachers and students also demonstrated average scores above 90%, indicating a very positive reception.
The media was developed in both print and digital formats, consisting of three story chapters that include elements such as characters, plot, setting, conflict, and local Malay cultural content.
Based on these findings, the comic-based learning media is considered feasible, effective, and engaging for use in Indonesian language learning, particularly in teaching fiction writing to junior high school students.
