ABSTRACT
Clay is one of natural resources in Indonesia, one of which there is in Province of
Riau. Natural clay used in this study was taken from the village Cengar. Minerals
found in the clays including from the group muscovite, kaolinite and quartz.
Liquid coagulant was obtained through calcination process at a temperature of
700 °C for 1 hour and the leaching used 0.2 mol H2SO4, the temperature variation
of 80 and 100 oC. The liquid coagulant and adsorbent were used in peat water
treatment processes, that the peat water in this used research was located in Rimbo
Panjang Village, Kampar Regencies. Coagulation process was carried two stages
with twice addition of coagulant. The results obtained from the coagulation
process will be compared to PERMENKES No.416/MENKES/PER/IX/1990.
KLC100 have a good efficiency for improving quality peat water. 8 parameter that
analyzed, turbidity value obtained at the process of coagulation two stage
decreased significant of the process one stage. The removal efficiency for
turbidity from two stage coagulation process KLC80 and KLC100 was 99.86%,
thus qualifies the quality of water. The Adsorption process used in this study was
column method with the variation of weight were 2, 4, and 6 g. The adsorbent
weight of 6 g can improve peat water quality such as color and organic
substances, with removal color efficiency obtained ranges from 33,86%-37,20%
and organic substances ranges from 20,51%-21,93%.
