ABSTRACT
Sweet corn (Zea mays saccharata Sturt.) is a type of corn that is often consumed
fresh and used as raw material for the food industry because of its higher sugar
content compared to other types of corn. This research aims to determine the
effect of the interaction of Empty Fruit Bunch Oil Palm ash (EFBOP ash) and
NPK fertilizer, the effect of applying EFBOP ash and NPK fertilizer and to obtain
a better combination in increasing the growth and production of sweet corn plants
on peat land. This research used a randomized block design with 3 replications
and consisted of 2 factors, namely EFBOP ash dose (0 t.ha-1; 1,5 t.ha-1; 3 t.ha-1;
4.5 t.ha-1), NPK Mutiara 16-16-16 fertilizer dose (150 kg.ha-1; 300 kg.ha-1). The
parameters observed were plant height, diameter of the stem, number of leaves,
the time when male flowers appearance, time when female flowers appearance,
harvest time, weight of cobs with husk, diameter of cob without husk, length of
cobs without husk, weight of cobs without husk and yield per m2.The interaction
of EFBOP ash and NPK fertilizer can increase plant height and stem diameter.
The application of EFBOP ash can speed up the time when male flowers
appearance, the time when female flowers appearance, harvest time and increase
plant height, weight of cobs with husks, length of cobs without husks, weight of
cobs without husks, yield per m2, as well as the diameter of the stem. Providing
NPK Mutiara 16-16-16 fertilizer can increase plant height and yield per m2, stem
diameter and speed up when male flowers appear and when female flowers
appear.
